Abstract

The authors treated 23 patients with enterobiasis using piperazine hydrate emulsioned in syrup with orange flavour, 5 cc. of it containing 250 mg of the drug. The control of the treatment was made through perianal swabs with cellulose adhesive tape, from the second to the fifteenth day after stopping the treatment, four or five examinations being made in different opportunities. The daily dosis adopted was 60 mg per kg of body weight, divided into two fractions. The emulsion was dissolved in half a glass of water. Of the 23 patients treated, 18 received two series of treatment, each one lasting seven days, the two series being separated by an interval of seven days; the remaining five patients received only a series of treatment. The authors obtained a cure in 21 cases (91.3 per cent.). They emphazise the value of the drug, which gives a high percentage of cure without the necessity of adopting local treatment or specific hygienic measures. In effective doses, the drug does not produce toxic or side effects, it can easily be given to little children and is a low-priced drug.
