Abstract

The Author describes a new autochthonous focus of schistosomiasis mansoni in Santos, observed at the district of Jabaquara. In zones where there are ditches for the cultivation of watercress in connection with sanitary fosses a great quantity of snails of the genus Australorbis is found. Examinations made of the faeces of the inhabitants of the region register 37 positive cases for eggs of Schistosoma mansoni, of which 25 are undoubtedly autochthonous. There are stated also the promising results obtained by treating the patients with antimonium salt ("Stilosoma").
