Abstract

The authors analysed serologically 225 cultures of Shiqella paradysenteriae by the slide-agglutination test of Wheeler with type-specific sera, Of the 200 cultures that could be identified by this method, type II was the most frequent (50%); also common were types I (17%), V (13%) and IV (9,5%). Other types were identified less frequently; no types IX and X were found. Type-specific antigens were not detected in 16 cultures; since strong reactions were given by them with polyvalent sera they were regarded as belonging to the former X and or Y types. Agglutination with more than one type-specific sera was obtained with 9 other Sh. paradysenteriae cultures; these strains will be more thoroughly studied and reported later
